Go the Distance Day

 

Its Purpose Is To:

• Show Iowa youth that physical activity is fun and makes them feel good!
• Increase public awareness of youth physical inactivity.
• Inform the public that physical education programs are needed in our schools!

How Do We Participate?

• DESIGNATE a coordinator for your school
• REGISTER your school today
• WRITE a fitness pledge for all students to recite on Go The Distance Day
• PLAN a 30 minute physical activity event for your school
• RECORD the number of participants
• REPORT your 100% participation by NOON on Tuesday, May 5, 2009

We encourage schools to be creative when planning their physical activity. Some examples include: hiking at a local park, dancing, track and field events, or a community clean up.

If you are unable to participate in Go The Distance Day on Friday, May 1 you may hold your event any day that week (April 27 - May 1).

Monetary Awards:      

• Each school that achieves 100 percent participation will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of several monetary awards. One $3,000 award and four $500 awards will be given away!
• The monetary awards must be used toward physical education, wellness efforts or new playground equipment.
