Adaptive Sports Iowa (ASI), the newest addition to the Iowa Sports Foundation docket of events and programs, began in February 2011 with its first wheelchair basketball tournament.  ASI believes sport and recreational opportunities should not be inhibited by physical impairments.  Through events and educational opportunities, the ISF and ASI will strive to create, organize, and promote these opportunities to serve the population of Iowa.

  The Iowa Sports Foundation in conjunction with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources have developed a program called Fish Iowa Games.  The Fish Iowa Games program is a competition through Iowa schools, where students cast from three distances using the flipping, pitching and overhand techniques.  Since Fish Iowa Games began as a pilot program in 2006, over 55,000 Iowa K-12 students have participated in this FREE program.

  Hoopin' At The Dome presented by U.S. Bank is a half-court, 3 on 3 basketball tournament.  Hosted by the ISF and Des Moines Park and Recreation, Hoopin' At The Dome was created to promote both the Iowa Games in the city of Des Moines and sport & fitness throughout Iowa.  The tournament is played annually in May in the shadow of the Iowa State Capitol.

The Iowa Games began in August of 1987 as a weekend event, featuring 16 sports and 7,104 participants (nearly a record number at that time for a first-year state games).  For the first time, weekend athletes, school children and senior citizens could experience the thrill of great performances and satisfaction of doing their best in a statewide Olympic-style competition.  Today the Iowa Sports Foundation hosts the Summer and Winter Games with over 60 sports and 20,000 athletes

  Mediacom and Care Initiatives has teamed up with the Iowa Sports Foundation to sponsor the annual Iowa Games Golf Classic.  The four-person best shot tournament in late summer serves as a fundraiser for the ISF.  It has been held at some of Iowa’s best courses including:  Glen Oaks Country Club, The Harvester Golf Club, The Legacy Golf Club, Talons of Tuscany, and the Tournament Club of Iowa.

This unique trail running race is sure to be fun and challenging for all participants and spectators. Racers of all abilities will have a great time throughout the course, with obstacles and the ISF Mucky Mud Pit! The course will feature a 3 mile trek with several obstacles and a 1 mile Fun Run. At the end of the race, participants will venture through the Mucky Mud Pit to the finish. Bring towels and extra clothes as make-shift showers will be provided.

  Bankers Trust Net Fest, a basketball and volleyball tournament began in 1997 with 179 young athletes participating in the one-day event.  Today, Net Fest basketball and volleyball are held on two separate days, bringing nearly 1,500 athletes along with hundreds of parents and fans onto the Iowa State University Campus.  The basketball tournament is traditionally held on a Saturday near Thanksgiving, while the volleyball portion is held on one of the first Saturdays in January.
