Fish Iowa Games
Fish Iowa Games is a
casting competition developed by the
Iowa Sports Foundation (Iowa Games)
in conjunction with the Iowa
Department of Natural Resources. The
program is a fun competition where
students learn to cast from three
distances using the flipping,
pitching and casting techniques.
Often this is the first time kids
have held a rod and reel. Fish Iowa
Games can easily be incorporated
into a P.E. or science curriculum in
conjunction with the Iowa Department
of Natural Resources Fish Iowa!
program.

Looking for the latest information
on nutrition and physical activity
in schools? Want some
consumer-friendly handouts for your
next presentation about the
connection between a healthy school
environment and student success?
www.school-wellness.org is a
great place to get these
resources...to help you improve
nutrition and physical activity
options for children. A wide variety
of science-based resources, created
by leaders in child nutrition and
health, are available for download.
In the Classroom -
Find nutrition curriculum programs
for the classroom - elementary
grades through high school - as well
as downloadable activity sheets and
nutrition information. For example,
4th and 5th grade math teachers can
order a free copy of the Choose
Well kit which incorporates math
lessons with food label reading.
Around the School
Kitchen and Dining Room - This site
provides background information on
the nutrition needs of children as
well as tasty recipes developed
specifically for National School
Lunch Program meals.
For School Wellness
Committees - In 2004, the US
Congress mandated the development
and implementation of school
wellness policies in every local
educational agency receiving US
Department of Agriculture funds for
Child Nutrition Programs. The School
Wellness Policy Tool Kit provides
background information, tips,
resources, and handouts to support
your local school wellness policy.
At Home - A growing
body of research shows that regular
family mealtimes have a positive
impact on all aspects of a child's
development - physical, mental,
behavioral, social, and educational.
Enriching Family Mealtimes is a
"Tool Kit" that provides school
leaders, health professionals and
parent volunteers the tools needed
to help busy families enjoy more
mealtimes together - "how-to" tips,
advice, tasty recipes, shopping
lists, conversation starters plus
many other resources.
