Each week Live Healthy Iowa Kids will highlight
some healthy, nutritious recipes
that are easy for kids to make.
Oatmeal Power Bites:
Makes: 18 bars
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup applesauce
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup grated carrots
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup chopped pecans, optional
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins
Directions: Remember
to wash your hands!
1. Preheat oven to
350 degrees F. and lightly coat
9x9-inch pan with cooking spray.
2. In a large bowl,
combine brown sugar, applesauce,
egg, vanilla and carrots.
3. Add remaining
ingredients and mix well.
4. Pour mixture into
prepared pan.
5. Bake 20 to 25
minutes or until golden brown around
edges. Let cool and cut into bars.
Nutrition Facts: One
bar provides 90 calories, 2g total
fat, 10mg cholesterol, 35mg sodium,
17g total carbohydrate

Creamsicle in a
Glass
Servings: 4, Prep
Time: 10 minutes
1 can (6 ounces) frozen orange juice
concentrate
1 container (8 ounces) low-fat
vanilla yogurt
1 cup low-fat milk
1 tablespoon sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
3 ice cubes
Orange slices for garnish
Preparation: Place
orange juice concentrate, yogurt,
milk, sugar and vanilla in blender.
Process on medium until mixture is
smooth.
Increase speed to
high and drop ice cubes, one at a
time, through opening in blender
cover. Process until ice is crushed.
Garnish, if desired, and serve
immediately.

gm protein, 3 gm fat, 34 gm
carbohydrates, 69 mg sodium, 11 mg

Banana Dogs
3/4 c. Jif® peanut
butter
2 tbsp honey
4 flour tortilla shells
2 small bananas
Directions:
1.
Stir peanut butter and honey
together.
2.
Spread flour tortilla with peanut
butter mixture.
3.
Peel bananas and cut in half
lengthwise.
4.
Place 1 banana half into each
tortilla.
5.
Can top with condiments if desired -
chopped peanuts, etc.
6.
Roll tortilla up and chow down!
