The mission of the Iowa Games is to provide sports and recreation opportunities for all Iowans through Olympic-style festivals, events and programs.

The Iowa Games offers statewide sports competition for Iowa’s athletes.  The Iowa Games was first introduced to the state in 1987 when the Summer Iowa Games was held in Ames.  

Today, over 14,000 athletes participate in 50+ sports at the Olympic-style sports festival during July.  In 1992 the Games expanded to include the Winter Iowa Games in Dubuque and Cedar Rapids.  In late January and early February over 4,000 Iowans compete in 20 sports. 

The Iowa Games offers additional sports events over the course of the year. The line-up of sporting events includes

  • Net Fest Volleyball
  • Net Fest Soccer
  • Fish Iowa Games
  • Hoopin’ At The Dome
  • Mud Run
  • Iowa Games Golf Classic.

The mission of Live Healthy Iowa is to provide health and wellness opportunities to educate and motivate all Iowans to live a healthy lifestyle.

Live Healthy Iowa was created in 2001 as a strategic health initiative to address the state’s growing obesity problem.   What began as a team-based weight loss challenge in Central Iowa has evolved into year-round wellness challenges and events for Iowa youth and adults. 

Bringing together friends, families, businesses and communities, Live Healthy Iowa has maintained participation in each of Iowa’s 99 counties since 2004.  In 2012, over 208,000 Iowans took part in a Live Healthy Iowa challenge or event.

The mission of Adaptive Sports Iowa (ASI) is to provide statewide leadership in the planning, promotion, education and organization of sports and recreation opportunities for physically disabled Iowans.

ASI is a program reaching a new demographic; Iowa's physically disabled athlete. Officially kicking off operations March 8, 2011, with the vision of improving the quality of life for all physically disabled Iowans through consistent recreation opportunities.

ASI strives to be a resource for Iowa on the Paralympic movement. ASI wants people to enjoy the activities they’re passionate about, providing a sense of independence rather than isolation.

ASI programs are offered year round in a variety of different sports with an ever-expanding catalog of opportunities including:

  • Beep Baseball
  • Goalball
  • Power Soccer
  • RAGBRAI Team
  • Track and Field
  • Wheelchair Basketball
  • Winter Experience (skiing)
